At the end of another busy week the GWPC U14 players met at The Meres for their last match of the school year against City of Sheffield. Despite concerns about the traffic, the Sheffield team arrived in time for a quick warm up before swim off at 17:30.

Grantham scored an early first goal only for Sheffield to take the lead within the next two minutes, with a nail-biting 2:3 to Sheffield by the end of the first quarter. As play resumed in the second quarter Sheffield gave a strong start with two shots at goal in the first 90 seconds and the score reaching 3:6 to Sheffield by the end of the second quarter, our goal was a penalty taken by Sam.

Grantham continued to play hard into the third quarter with two successive goals, only for Sheffield to comeback and round off the quarter 5:9 to Sheffield.

The final quarter saw Grantham’s grit and determination shine through, with Seth, Josh and Gabriel all hitting the back of the net. With Dave calling two timeouts in the quarter, the team regrouped with Gabriel bringing up Grantham’s score to 8 in the last 8 seconds of play, with an overall result of 8:9 to Sheffield.

Well done to Gabriel playing in goal, not his usual position, and the whole team for giving everything to bring up the score significantly in the final quarter!
