Our Under 14s squad began their season yesterday with an entertaining and competitive fixture against Rotherham at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham.
With it being the first match of the season, the whole squad came into the game well prepared and eager to test themselves. The hard work put in during training was evident from the outset, with the team showing strong organisation, determination and excellent team spirit throughout the match.
For the majority of the game the contest was very closely fought. Grantham matched Rotherham across the first three quarters in what proved to be an exciting encounter for players and spectators alike. The score remained tight for much of the match, with both teams trading goals and momentum in a true end-to-end contest.
Rotherham managed to edge ahead in the final quarter, eventually taking the match 14–10. Despite the result, there were many positives for Gareth, our Head Coach to take from the performance, particularly the effort, teamwork and commitment shown by the entire squad.
The match also provided a valuable early opportunity to identify a few small tactical areas that the team will continue to develop in training over the coming weeks. With the season now underway, the focus will quickly turn to building on this performance and applying those refinements in future games.
We will now look ahead to their next fixture against Morley, where the squad will be aiming to build on the positives from this opening match of the season.
